Neriak is a dark beautiful city carved out of the very bones of the earth, deep under the forest of Nektulos. The multileveled tunnels that make up the basic connecting structure of Neriak were originally carved by meandering underground rivers that sprang from Lake Neriuss when its levels were higher. Later, they were widened and carved into a beautiful, dark, secret city by the magic of the dark elves, named in their own language as "Teir'Dal." Everything in this city is carved from the same dark stone, but minerals give it different colors. The dark elves are ruled by King Naythox Thex and his queen, Cristanos. Though it is not commonly acknowledged, the kings of the high elves and dark elves share a common lineage, as once all elves were related.

The Common Quarter of the dark elf city of Neriak is home to the average citizens of the Teir'Dal kingdom. Residing deeper in Norrath's dark Underfoot than the surface gate of the city's Foreign Quarter, Neriak Commons is even more devoid of light; in fact there are no citizens here that would depend upon a light source to guide their vision. This quarter is home to the commoners of Teir'Dal society. It is in this section that most of the commerce of Neriak takes place. Any one who is not dark elf, ogre or troll is generally attacked on sight by the guards and most of the inhabitants.

The layout of the Common Quarter is rather intricate, featuring darkly beautiful Teir'Dal architecture. All buildings are made of the dark gray stone that this cavernous city was carved from. Rare deposits of marble and other finer stone materials found during the construction of this area of the city enabled the building of a few fine statues and fountains. Otherwise, the city seems relatively plain in comparison to the rich, lavish fineries of which the noble Teir'Dal tend to indulge. Being the social center of the Teir'Dal society, the Common Quarter houses the vast majority of the city's guildhalls.

Dangers

Any who venture this far into Neriak that are not Teir'Dal, Ogres, or Trolls (or protected by an illusion) are normally killed on sight.

Benefits

The primary benefits of the common quarter of Neriak are guild halls, trade skills, and banking.

The common quarter of Neriak is home to two guild halls which support four player classes. Warriors call The Indigo Brotherhood home, and the non-necromancer casters (Wizard, Magician, Enchanter) have found a home in the Tower of the Spurned. The Burnished Coin - Neriak's bank - can be found in an underground area called "Neriak Down Under" around the corner from several shops. Further, the common quarter provides supplies for several trade skills including Alchemy, Baking, Blacksmithing, Brewing, Fishing, Fletching, Jewelcraft, and Tailoring.

Travel To and From

The common quarter can only be reached by first reaching Neriak through Nektulos Forest and then passing through Neriak's foreign quarter. Beyond the common quarter is Neriak - Third Gate. The closest city to Neriak is West Freeport which is separated from Nektulos Forest by East Commonlands.

Players who do not have good faction in Neriak should use illusion or invisibility spells at all times. Many of the guards can be avoided via the Hidden_Passageway that terminates in Toadstool (which is around the corner from the zone to Neriak - Third Gate.

History, Lore, Background

Hidden Passageway

There is a hidden passage behind the waterfall (-87, -457, -10) near the Priest of Discord at the entrance from the foreign quarter with a secret passageway that leads to several locations in Neriak. The path leading northwest and down ends at a fake wall (-119, -1030, -38) in Toadstool. The path leading northeast and up (right at the fork) zones into the foreign quarter and ends at a fake wall in Oosa Shadowthumper's home that is marked by a red drawing of Innoruuk. The northeast path that forks to the southwest and down has a fake floor that drops you into another hidden area with a fake wall that terminates back to the other hidden path at -125, -549, -38. Coin of Tash Quest.

This quest starts in the Temple of Solusek Ro at Romar Sunto who will sell you the Tome of Tesh for 50gp. That tome includes the following relevant content about one of the 10 Coins of Tash:

Tarton's Wheel Quest

The Tarton's Wheel Quest begins in the Temple of Solusek Ro which is hidden away in Lavastorm Mountains. The Rod of Izah can be found in Neriak - Commons in the riverbed right outside the windows to The Blind Fish.
